Spots Where You Shouldn’t Install Your AC

Having an AC is a summer must, especially in a country like the UAE, which has a temperate climate all-year-around. But did you know where you install your AC can have a significant impact on its efficiency, performance, and overall longevity? Yes, not all the places in your house or office are suitable for installing the AC. According to maintenance companies, here is a list of places you should avoid when choosing a spot to fix your AC unit.

Avoid hotter parts of the house

While it’s fair to think ACs should be installed in the warmest part of the house, it’s a spot that needs to be avoided at all times. Sure it will cool that warm part of the house, but it will also require more energy to reach optimal temperature, consuming more energy. In turn, this will cost you more money to run the AC. Try to install the AC in a spot that is shady, not as hot, and close enough for the AC to cool down the hotter areas.

Stay away from the trash can

ACs usually grab the air from their nearby surroundings. This should let you know that installing your AC near a trash can put your house in a smelly situation. Plus, having any objects too close to the AC means the unit has to work faster than it usually does to grab the air it needs to cool down the property. This, again, can add up to high energy costs.

Avoid sharing circuits

Normally ACs require a lot of power, so if you’re plugging in a window unit, consider the other appliances in the area. If the circuit is already powering high-energy appliances like an oven, refrigerator or washing machine, it’s best to find a new spot for the AC. Your AC maintenance company can steer clear of these technical issues if you’re installing your AC through one.

On the head and the end of the bed

Placing your AC directly on the head or the end of the bed will release air to the body and head while you’re asleep, which can lead to health problems. In worse cases, if the AC is not cleaned for a long time, the air blown will have moisture and germs as well. This is one of the reasons that can give rise to respiratory issues or even trigger allergies and colds. Getting regular AC service can get rid of problems associated with germs, bacteria, dust, debris, and other air pollutants.

Above the door

When the AC is installed above the door, cold air is released outside quickly because of the opening and closing of the door. This makes the temperature near the door unstable making the AC run for longer to reach the optimal temperature. This can not only affect the efficiency of the AC unit but also makes it work much harder, consuming more energy.

Positioning your AC right above the door of the living room or hall, which opens to the outdoors, can be one of the main reasons why you get high AC bills. In the long term, this can also reduce the lifespan of the AC.
